Chemo started

Mom's cultures came back negative this morning so she was able to start chemotherapy this afternoon. She's getting an agent called Gemzar which should have fewer side effects than other therapies. Gemzar won't offer a cure, but we are praying that it will slow the cancer down quite a bit. So far Mom feels great (or at least the same as she felt before). The doctor told her that the symptoms usually start showing up 6-8 hours after the chemo is given, so hopefully she will be able to sleep tonight. Thank you for your prayers, letters of encouragnent, and meals.

Kim celebrated her 29th birthday yesterday with a visit from her boyfriend, Jon Thorson, from New York City. Happy Birthday Kim!

Anita and Family-

It's summer! The season when I almost never left your home- unless Carrie and I were going to the lake or to work in the fields! So many memories of summer days at the Daniels' home, or in Okoboji, or enjoying the lake in SL come to mind when this warm summer weather arrives.
Anita, there are just some things in our lives that when we see or think of something it triggers a memory. The other day I was trying to decide what kool aid packets to buy at the store. I immediatly grabbed the lemonade packet and then thought of you. The lemonade in the fridge was my favorite! The pulp in the lemonade was perfect! I don't think there were many visits to the Daniels when I didn't have some of your great, summer lemonade. Of course, the lemonade washed down the cookie dough that Carrie and I often made- well Carrie made it and I watched- which the dough rarely made it to the oven.

I believe the thirst and hunger were a result of the many games of Dutch Blitz. I have so many fond memories of my summer days with you all. I wish I was in Storm Lake today to knock on your door, enter the house and here you announce me to Carrie by saying, "Carrie, Paylo is here!"
Today, have some lemonade, with pulp, for me.

And, Happy Belated Birthday, Carrie! I miss you all!!

Love,
Paylo
( Paula)
